When the standout feature of a location is its water views, it makes sense to construct a home with the intention of magnifying that asset. For this luxury house on a bay in the exclusive suburb of Mosman in Sydney, every living space has been designed to showcase the views, utilising oversized glazed sliding doors and expansive feature windows.
Day-to-day living in the home centres around an open plan kitchen and dining area connected to generous outdoor relaxing and entertaining spaces. Through the use of wide-span top hung sliding doors which cleverly retract into a wall cavity, the transition between indoor and outdoor areas is both seamless and effortless, enabling the views to be enjoyed from every advantage point.
In creating a home where light, views and transitional spaces were key, the innovative use of large panels of glazing in key locations ensured the desired impact would be achieved. The oversized sliding doors minimise the number of vertical uprights which segment the views, while the width of the opening is maximised thanks to the hidden cavity where they are retained. The two sets of sliding doors with their flush sills allow the indoor and outdoor areas to be effortlessly and seamlessly combined into one harmonious entertainment space.
Further enhancing the sense of openness and space is the kitchen area’s pop up ceiling cleverly encourages light into key living spaces and the wide pivoting front door which invites visitors into the home. Meanwhile, all framing was finished in Electro Black Ace, providing a pleasing contrast to the subtle grey hues of the interior and exterior tiling.
